Itinerary

Step 1Introduction to Materials and Tools

Classes usually start with an introduction to the materials and tools needed for batik making. This includes fabric, wax, tjanting tools (for applying wax), brushes, and dyes.

Step 2Zürich–Biel/Bienne–Neuchâtel–Geneva

Participants learn how to create their own designs or use traditional Ghanaian motifs. This step involves drawing or tracing patterns onto a foam

Step 3Wax Application

The next step involves applying melted wax to the fabric using the designed foam. The wax acts as a resist, preventing dye from penetrating the covered areas.

Step 4Dyeing the Fabric

After the wax is applied, the fabric is dipped into dye baths. Multiple layers of dye and wax can be used to create intricate, multi-colored designs.

Step 5Removing the Wax

Once the dyeing process is complete, the wax is removed by boiling the fabric or using solvents, revealing the final design
